An environmental advocacy group based in Sudbury staged a unique demonstration this week on Parliament Hill.
Citizens Climate Lobby displayed dozens of parachutes decorated by kids to draw attention to climate change concerns.
For Cathy Orlando and her 11-year-old daughter, Sophia Mathur, it's about the future of the planet.
"It is important for kids to be worried about the climate crisis because it's going to be our future and our world that is going to be affected." said Mathur.
The mother daughter duo is worried about climate change and Orlando runs the Canadian wing of Citizens Climate Lobby in Sudbury.
They were in Ottawa on Monday to push politicians to do more.
"We had 40 parachutes for the planet, made by people from Halifax all the way to Vancouver, on Parliament Hill. The metaphor for the parachutes is we're asking our politicians for a soft landing on the climate crisis." said Orlando.
She says they were inspired by a young girl in the U.S. who decorated a parachute for a climate march.
They say it's important to hold demonstrations to help people understand what needs to be done.
"Air quality is important because a lot of people might have asthma and that could get them sick." said Mathur.
Sophia decorated some of the parachutes herself.
The family moved to Sudbury from southern Ontario in the late 90s because the eldest daughter had asthma and they were concerned about air pollution.
"So, she's the reason why I do it, and all children, there's no reason for this. I know the climate crisis is completely solvable, all we lack is political will." said Orlando.
Sophia and her mom plan to keep pushing for change.
Beginning in November, Sophia will be striking from school one Friday a month to stage demonstrations, calling for more action on climate change.
