One person has been charged with nine offences after Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a motel room theft in Hearst earlier this month.

Police responded around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 16 to a motel on Front Street.

"As officers were on scene investigating, they located one person in possession of an item taken from the motel room," the OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

"The person was arrested, and during a search incident to arrest, police located methamphetamine and a switchblade, which is a prohibited weapon."

The 47-year-old suspect is charged with possession of stolen property, break and enter, theft under $5,000, weapons and drug possession and four counts of failure to comply with a release order.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst on Nov. 6.
