Moosonee drug raid sees $20K in narcotics seized, four arrested
Three people from southern Ontario and one from Moosonee are facing drug trafficking charges following a raid on a home in the James Bay coast community.
Officers armed with a warrant searched a Wavey Crescent home in Moosonee shortly before 3 p.m. Feb. 1, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Friday.
Approximately $20,000 worth of suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine and methamphetamine was seized along with $10,200 in cash.
A 30-year-old woman from Moosonee and three men ages 23 and 24 from the GTA are charged with three counts each of drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.
They all remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court Friday.
In the last few months, there have been several people from southern Ontario busted for drug trafficking in the Far North.
A total of 47 charges were laid against six people -- including two GTA teens -- after a raid on the same Moosonee street on Nov. 7.
OPP Const. Kyler Brouwer told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca it was not the same home as the November raid.
An estimated $110,000 worth of drugs suspected to be fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, psilocybin and cannabis were seized by OPP in that case. Police also seized a 9 mm handgun, a magazine with ammunition, 10 cellphones, a knife, brass knuckles, a hatchet and approximately $12,500 in cash, in that investigation.
