Young offender from Toronto charged with bringing $45K of drugs to Far North

A young offender from Toronto has been charged with weapons and trafficking offences on the Island of Moose Factory.

On Tuesday, Moosonee Ontario Provincial Police, in partnership with the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, arrested two men in relation to a weapons incident Sept. 11 in Moose Factory.

“A search of one of the persons led to police seizing bear spray, ammunition, suspected fentanyl, suspected cocaine, suspected crystal methamphetamine and approximately $5,000 in cash,” the OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

“The estimated street value of the seized controlled substances is approximately $45,000.”

The adult suspect was held in custody on charges that were laid by the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.

The young person from Toronto is charged with several weapons and drug trafficking offences.

The young person was remanded into custody after a court appearance and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 15.

The adult was also remanded into custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 18.
