Meet northern Ontario's newest mayor
The Township of Moonbeam has a new mayor.

The town’s former councillor Luc Léonard has been appointed to the post and will finish out the rest of the municipal term.
The town had solicited residents to apply to be mayor following the resignation of previous mayor Éric Côté late last month.
Léonard was chosen during a public council meeting on Wednesday night and will assume office following the town council meeting on Oct. 3 when council has a chance to enact a new by-law to make it official.
Léonard previously served on the town’s municipal council for one term from 2014 to 2018.
He was one of three candidates who had applied to take the post.
Due to an equal number of votes during the process, the final decision was made by drawing lots which granted Léonard the mayorship.
He will serve in his new role until the next election in 2026.
