SUDBURY -- A McDonald's location in Greater Sudbury's Chelmsford area has shut down after three employees reported testing positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 5, the company confirmed in a news release.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitization by a certified third party," said McDonald's Canada. "We are working to ensure we reopen safely, as we know our guests depend on their local McDonald’s and we are committed to doing our part to help our communities."
The fast-food chain said all employees who may have been in close contact with the three infected staff members have been asked to self-quarantine until further information is available.
"For any guests who may have visited the restaurant on Oct. 30, 31 or Nov. 1, please take directions from the experts at Ontario Health Services," said McDonald's Canada.
While the restaurant is closed to dine-in business, the drive-thru has reopened Friday.
This comes after a massive spike in new COVID-19 cases in Greater Sudbury, with 17 new cases confirmed since Halloween on Saturday. As of Friday morning, there are 18 active cases of the disease within Greater Sudbury and there is evidence of community spread.
