Provincial police were called to a Kapuskasing restaurant around 10 p.m. Monday about a man with a knife acting erratically and throwing things.

Officers with the James Bay detachment responded to the establishment on Government Road and found the suspect still in possession of the knife.

"Due to the person's behaviour and threat to public safety, officers gained control safely and effectively," OPP said in a news release Tuesday.

The 30-year-old suspect from Iroquois Falls was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, having a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting a peace officer and having cocaine.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 8.
