SUDBURY -- A case of pandemic-inspired mask rage over the weekend in Blind River has led to charges for a man who became angry when a woman questioned why he wasn't wearing a mask.
The incident began Aug. 29 around 7:30 p.m. in a local convenience store, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.
"Investigation determined the complainant was in the convenience store when an unknown person walked in without wearing a mask and no shoes and (she spoke) up about this," police said. "The unknown person became angry and kicked the complainant's vehicle, uttering threats and made it known that he had a firearm."
Police found the suspect's vehicle shortly after 9:45 p.m. at a campsite on Beckerton Shooting Range Road and arrested three people, including the man who had threated the woman in the convenience store.
A 23-year-old man from Kitchener is charged with making death threats and mischief under $5,000. A 27-year-old man, also from Kitchener, was charged with breaching regulations when it comes to firearms storage, as was a third man, a 20-year-old from Spanish.
All three accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Oct. 1.
