SAULT STE. MARIE -- Wet’suwet’en supporters have shut down the main entrance to Sault Ste. Marie's International Bridge Monday afternoon.
The protestors started showing up at 2 p.m. and the main entrance was closed shortly after.
Three protesters hung a "Shut down Canada" sign across the main entrance to the bridge that spans the St. Marys River and connects Ontario to Michigan.
Another three protesters used their car to block traffic.
Protesters say they are there to show support for Wet'suwet'en First Nation.
"We’re taking up space. We’re messing up the Canadian economy because that’s what we need to do," said protester Candace Day Neveau.
Neveau added that there is no timeline for the protest.
Around 4 p.m., police shut down all traffic to the front of the bridge.
The back entrance which is used for trucks was opened to everyone.
Lincoln Louttit with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says the situation is being monitored.
