SUDBURY -- Officials with the Porcupine Health Unit have confirmed a staff member of a Timmins long-term-care facility had a false-positive test for COVID-19.
The case was confirmed Tues. Nov. 17 as the region’s 105th case of the coronavirus.
The case was believed to be in an employee at the Extendicare facility in Timmins. As such, health officials said they would immediately begin an outbreak assessment at the facility, which led them to the discovery that the case in question was a false-positive.
“All precautions are taken, such as isolation, while any investigation and follow up is being conducted, in order to reduce the potential risk of spread,” the health unit said in a statement Wednesday evening. “This is especially important in situations that involve high risk and vulnerable populations.”
According to the health unit, the case in question will now be removed from the total case count for the region.
