Two Sudbury bakers, Justine Martin and Josee Frappier, are heading to Las Vegas for the International Baking Industry Exposition.

While they are there, they will compete in an international creative decorating competition.

Martin has been decorating cakes for friends and family since 2015, and is the owner of Guilty Pleasures Bakeshop and Bar.

"The response to the shop has been great. We're pretty busy. I do a lot of weddings and custom orders. We have a lot of regulars that come in and grab their coffee," said Martin.

Martin says the applied to be part of the competition in Las Vegas because she was looking for something that would challenge her and her employee, Frappier.

"Honestly, I think I'm just looking forward to the decorating part of it and seeing what a competition will take," said Frappier.

The competition takes place over two days, where teams will have six hours each day, and must complete four cakes in that time.

The categories include a wedding cake, rolled fondant, sculpted and a 'surprise'.

"We have three of the categories and profiles of the cakes already. We got those a few months ago, so we have our designs all planned out. We have everything purchased for that, and we're travelling with some special ingredients to make the cakes as perfect as they can be. But for the fourth one, we won't find out until the day before the competition what that is," said Martin.

The competition gets underway on September 8.

They say winners of the competition are awarded thousands of dollars in cash prizes.
