NORTH BAY – In North Bay, people are fed up with a road construction project on Lavase Road.

When the city announced it would replace its existing water and sewer main lines and install a new storm sewer, it felt like a dream come true for homeowners living on the street.

"I thought it was like winning the lottery when they said they were going to redo our street," said Marian Lloyd, area resident.

That dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

"It's been taking so long! There was a pit here 26 feet deep and there were no workers around," expressed Lloyd.

Scott Taggart, Operation Manager for the City of North Bay says, "Construction weary is the best way to put it. It's a large scope project and it's been a long project and a lot of that had to do with the depth we had put in the ground."

Crews returned on October 18 and were excavating and putting in the main lines.

There's also a sidewalk being paved, and driveways have been torn up. Some front yards are non-existent, and pipes flow along from property to property leaving some homeowners with nowhere to park.

"It's a problem when you have to carry groceries and make appointments and have maneuver down dangerous territory," explained Lloyd.

Meanwhile, other neighbours say they understand why the construction is taking place, but say the inconvenience has left them fed up.

"We'll be happy when it's all done! I'm suggesting a block party. Thank you city hall but come on and get it finished," added Lloyd.

The city says it will fully restore where there's been property damage, but it remains to be seen when that will be.
