SUDBURY -- It was a busy day at Windy Lake Provincial Park as dozens of Sudburians gathered to take part in a free day of Nordic skiing.

Hosted by the Onaping Falls Nordic Ski Club as part of the Onaping Falls Winter Festival, outdoor enthusiasts were offered free use and a rental if they had their festival button.

“We have great conditions, we generally have early snow, later snow. The last two years we’ve been skiing right into April,” said Wayne Chabot, club president. “The whole family can do it, that’s probably the biggest thing. We have three-year-olds skiing in the jack-rabbit program right up to 78-year-olds.”

Chabot believes it’s the exercise, the scenery and snow that appeals to most when it comes to Nordic skiing.

“I think you work harder than downhill even, if you really want to get exercise you can really get your heart up,” he added.
