Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas say cuts in the provincial government's recent economic outlook will hurt the north's Francophone population.

The Ford conservatives say they'll scrap plans for a French language university.

There is also a proposal to chop a French language commissioner position, working to improve the quality of services in Ontario.

Gelinas, who represents a riding with a large Francophone population, says students plan to fight for a new university.

“Young people reacted on social media like I have never seen before. They are not going to say ‘no.’ What will end up happening is he made a whole bunch of activists out of young people who would never see themselves as activists before. They are activists now. They are going to stand up to this government and they are not going to take ‘no’ for an answer.” said Gelinas.

Ontario Finance Minister and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says finding fiscal balance will require everyone to make sacrifices.
