Flood watches issued for two Sudbury-area creeks
Conservation Sudbury issued a flood watch Thursday for Junction Creek from New Sudbury to Lively and Romford Creek in Coniston.
Both statements are effective as of 8 a.m. Thursday.
"The current Environment Canada forecast for the next seven days indicates warm temperatures nearing 24°C with light precipitation," Conservation Sudbury said in a news release.
In addition, water safety messaging is still in effect for all other watercourses in Greater Sudbury. Both statements are in effect until 1 p.m. on April 19.
"A significant amount of snowpack within the City of Greater Sudbury has melted over the past few days, however, the upper reaches of all watercourses still have snowpack with significant water content." the release said.
"Warmer temperatures will accelerate the rate of snowmelt resulting in a sudden rise in water levels and flow."

All residents, and especially those with properties adjacent to Junction Creek and Romford Creek and their tributaries are at a higher risk of flooding and occupants should be prepared.
"Current water levels and flows on Junction Creek and Romford Creek are already elevated and will continue to rise over the next few days," the release said.
"Water levels will not decrease rapidly and developing conditions must be closely monitored by all residents especially those living in known low-lying, hazard areas where overland flooding could become an issue."
Conservation Sudbury remains in direct contact with the City of Greater Sudbury as well as all other partners to keep them informed of the situation.
"Staff continues with the monitoring of water levels and updates will be provided as required," the release said.
