TIMMINS -- The Timmins Community Park Association gave the community a first look at the city's revitalized Hollinger Skate Path on Saturday.

Visitors were invited to enjoy some holiday activities like toffee-making, Christmas caroling and marshmallow roasting.

The opening of Hollinger Park marked the first of 12 events the Timmins Community Park Association has in store for the community this season.

The association says it’s the perfect landmark to help achieve its mission.

"We want the community to come out and have fun. We want the community, as family groups, to come out and enjoy the outdoors. Timmins is a beautiful spot in the winter, spring, summer and fall, and we want to get families doing stuff together," said Mark Rogers, Timmins Community Park Association.

This was the community's first look at the park's revamped skate path and some have been anxious to get a peek.

"We're excited for it to open again. We used to come a lot when it was here, so we're excited to be able to have the chance and we're looking forward to the ice being on, s that we can skate out here again," said one Timmins resident.

The skate path isn't yet open for skating but the city has taken responsibility for the path and says it's planning to be open in January.

Rogers says when it is open, it will be a spectacle.

"Like even last night, the lights fired up… they got the lights working around the rink… they lit this place up and it's beautiful out there. When you actually get out to skate and you're skating under those lights, it's going to be really nice," he explained.

For now, Rogers says the park association is looking forward to hosting a snowshoe racing event in January, and when its iced, says there's a possibility of holding a curling event on the skate path.
