Death of 21-year-old being investigated in Moose Factory

Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old who was found with critical injuries in a small First Nation community on the James Bay Coast on Tuesday.

Officers were called to Jaban Street in Moose Factory First Nation around 3 a.m. Nov. 7 and found the victim with life-threatening injuries, OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

OPP spokesperson Kyler Brouwer told CTV News in an email they cannot confirm the details about how the victim was hurt.

"Residents of the area should expect to see a large police presence while the investigation continues," OPP said.

The OPP traffic incident management enforcement team, forensic identification services, provincial liaison team, chief coroner and forensic pathology service are assisting with the investigation, which is still in its early stages.
