A community fundraising campaign for a combined therapeutic and leisure pool in the Greater Sudbury community of Azilda received a boost Tuesday.

The $40,000 donation from the Sudbury area Desjardins branches means that the fundraising campaign is now almost half way to its target.

Evelyn Dutrisac is a Sudbury city councillor.

“Wanting to raise $300,000 and today this $40,000 from Caisse Desjardins brings us to $145,000, which is nearly half of what we have to fundraise. And I have two, three other people that have said they are going to give us $10,000.  But, the purpose is to get everyone giving us a contribution.” said Dutrisac.

Jean Bisson is the general manager of Caisse populaire Vermillon.

“It’s very important to be involved in our community. We’ve worked very hard for years to be part of projects all over the city and I’m so happy that all the Caisses, there’s three of us here in town, and we’ve all come together for a project to support the community.” said Bisson.

Dutrisac says she hopes shovels will be in the ground for the new complex by 2019.
