4-year-old Liam Lamarche proudly stood front stager with police dignitaries on September 12 as he was recognized for his quick wits in saving his mom's life.

Lamarche was at his Bonfield home with his mom when she was hit by a seizure.

He then dialed 911.

"Maybe between the seizures, his mom told him to call 911. I know he was good on the phone, he was telling them the colour of the house," said the boy's dad.

His mom was rushed to the hospital and survived.

Lamarche is just one person to receive an award at the annual Ontario Provincial Police Awards Ceremony, which highlights police and citizens who went beyond the call of duty to help others.

Constable Marc Plante is another who was recognized for saving a man's life when he jumped into frigid waters of the Wabi River in New Liskeard.

"We brought him to shore, and at that time he wasn't responsive. He had a pulse, but not responsive and we got him to the hospital," said Plante.

The OPP Commissioner made the trip north for the ceremony and he highlights how his officers and everyday citizens make a positive difference in our communities.

"It's the effort of these officers and members of our communities put in going to the aid to another member of our community," said OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.

Some award winners had to put their lives on the line, and were in the right place at the rights time, added Carrique.
