Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Christian Provenzano has been busy working to explain to business in the United States why the American tariffs on Canadian steel are unnecessary and harmful.
Speaking at a trade forum in the Detroit area Monday, Provenzano said the situation needs to be addressed immediately.
He says tariffs are not just harmful to Canada, but also have a big impact on American states that ship raw materials to Algoma through Michigan and Ohio.
“Great to talk to some American business people about the issue. Anytime I have the opportunity in front of American political leaders and American business people to talk about the pressing issue of steel tariffs, I’m certainly going to do it. I’m going to stand up for our community and I’m going to obviously make the case that these tariffs should be immediately lifted." said Provenzano.
Ottawa is in negotiations with the U.S. on the steel tariff issue.
