911 call leads to impaired driving charges in northern Ont.
A 60-year-old man from Kapuskasing, Ont., is facing several impaired driving-related charges following a traffic stop near Highway 11 over the long weekend.
On May 18 just before 2:30 p.m., members of the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to a 911 call concerning a suspected impaired driver on Highway 11 in the Moonbeam area, police said in a news release.
Officers located a vehicle matching the description provided and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 581 in Moonbeam, Ont.
“Upon speaking with the driver police determined that they had been consuming an alcoholic beverage,” said police.
“The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.”
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 60-year-old man from Kapuskasing, has been charged with driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available and two impaired driving charges.

The vehicle involved was impounded for seven days by police and the accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on June 17.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
This comes only hours after James Bay OPP was called to Kapuskasing concerning a vehicle rolling over into a ditch as a result of another suspected impaired driver.
“The OPP urges the public to call 911 immediately if they suspect impaired driving to help keep our roads safe for everyone,” said police.
