Another closure at mining giant Vale will see about 13 people likely lose their jobs.

Company officials tell CTV that Vale is set to close its crushing area at the Clarabelle Mill. At this point, there is no confirmation about the total job loss.

Last May production ended at Vale's Stobie Mine; as the last skip was brought up, ending 130 years of service in the nickel city.

“The suspension of operations at Stobie Mine has resulted in less ore being processed through Clarabelle Mill,” said Angie Robson, Vale corporate affairs.

“The amount of ore is sufficient to be processed through the installed SAG (semi-autonomous grinding) Mill only. The less efficient crushing area at Clarabelle Mill is no longer required as a result.

Vale said operations at the crushing area have been down for the past four months and after a comprehensive review, a decision was made to suspend operations in the area permanently.
