Provincial officials are probing an early morning residential fire in Sault Ste. Marie.

The blaze broke out at around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday at a building on Queen Street East in the city's downtown area.

Two people are in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials from the Ontario Fire Marshal's office have been called in to investigate the cause.

Fire officials on scene declined to tell CTV if the fire had been deemed suspicious. About 20 people live in the building and they will be displaced for a few days.
