Pete Warrington was out fishing with a friend on Lake Wahnapitae in Skead on the weekend when they began experiencing mechanical issues around 5 pm.

Their boat became swamped, but the pair was able to make it to Wahnapitae Island on auxiliary power.  It was on the island that Warrington was able to call 911 for help.

When local resident, Jody Villeneuve, heard about the stranded duo, he sprang into action and got his own boat out to go help them.

He stopped at the fire hall on the way and asked for assistance; crews were waiting on the arrival of a police boat, so he went ahead.

As luck would have it, Villeneuve knew the guys he rushed to rescue.

Thankfully the anglers are were unharmed as they arrived at the marina landing, even after spending a few hours in the cool November air.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services stresses the importance of being prepared when out on the water at this time of year.
