Health Sciences North in Sudbury wants to establish a new Learners Centre.

Hospital management has pegged the cost of the facility at $5 million and a local car dealership is offering some financial assistance, to help reach the target.

Crosstown Chevrolet announced a $500,000 donation on Wednesday.

Vince and Karen Pollesel say their lives have been touched by the work that is done at Health Sciences North, so it was natural thing for them to want to help make the new learners centre become a reality.

"With aging parents spending a lot of time recently in the hospital and the care that they received was just phenomenal, so we're very pleased with that and we want to give back," said Vince.

Currently, the hospital’s simulation lab is where health care professionals from across the north practice 'real-life' medical scenarios; such as, caring for a car crash victim.

"(It helps us) find out the right diagnosis and what types of injuries this person might have, so we are able to determine that," said Dr. Rob Anderson.

The learners centre will be a two story building that will be attached to the front of the hospital.

"It's having that connection so we will be able to have the space that we need to do the kind of education and health care simulation that we require, so its seamless. You're down one corridor seeing patients, you turn left or you turn right and you're in the learner centre corridor," explained Dr. Chris Bourdon.

The hospital said it is very appreciative of this first community donation and it hopes organizations will step up and contribute to the $5-million it needs the raise locally.
