Weather alerts issued for strong wind gusts up to 80 km/h in east of Lake Superior

Strong wind gusts up to 80 km/h are expected to hit the Superior East area from Elliot Lake west to Heron Bay on Thursday afternoon, bringing possible power outages.

Environment Canada issued weather alerts for the following communities in northeastern Ontario:

  • Agawa
  • Batchawana Bay
  • Chapleau
  • Elliot Lake
  • Lake Superior Park
  • Missinaibi Lake
  • Montreal River Harbour
  • Pukaskwa
  • Ranger Lake
  • Searchmont
  • Wawa
  • White River

"Strong southwest winds will develop late this afternoon with the strongest gusts expected near Lake Superior," the special weather statement said.

"Winds will shift to the northwest and ease slightly late this evening."

Residents should also secure any loose objects that could be tossed and cause injury or damage.
