Wanted Elliot Lake man arrested following local hardware store robbery

A wanted man from Elliot Lake, Ont. was arrested on Sunday after evading police in the area for more than two weeks.

On May 10, a hardware store on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake was broken into and had items stolen, said police in a news release on Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police later reviewed video surveillance of the incident and identified the man involved.

“Police located the male hiding in the attic at a residence on Hillside Drive South,” reads the release.

“The male had four outstanding warrants out for his arrest, including a previous trafficking schedule I substance, previous sexual assault and numerous previous failure to complies.”

As a result of the investigation into the latest incident and the subsequent arrest, the 39-year-old accused faces eight additional charges – including breaking and entering, possession of break-in instruments, resisting a peace officer and escape from lawful custody.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing on Monday.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
