Violence also found in northern schools; union officials say

High school teachers across the province say they need more training and more staff hired to address school violence.

In northern Ontario, North Bay's local Ontario Secondary School Federation of Teachers president told CTV News that teachers in this region are feeling the same way.

"Locally here, the violence we've seen in our buildings, it's not just the day that's ruined these problems linger on," said Parker Robinson.

Most commonly it's southern Ontario where these violent instances seem to take place, but Robinson said the violence in schools is taking place in the north too.

"We've seen increased levels of student violence and weapons at school, and more troubling behaviour than ever before."

Robinson said on top of teachers getting this support, it's important all staff, including educational assistants, and principals also get training.
