Update:

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the victim in Tuesday's fatal crash on Highway 17 near Wawa.

Police say 41-year-old Choudhry Nouman Ahmed Tariq of Brampton died in the incident. They also say there were actually five occupants in the vehicle, four of which are uninjured.

Ontario Provincial Police are dealing with an overnight highway crash in northern Ontario that has claimed the life of one person.

It happened at 12:44 am Monday, August 6 on Highway 17, about 30 kilometres south of Wawa.

An investigation has revealed that a single motor vehicle left the road and struck a rock cut.

Of the four people inside the vehicle, three were uninjured, while one passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of technical collision investigators.

Police had to close the road between Batchewana Bay and Wawa for a time, but  all lanes have been reopened.

No details yet on the identity of the victim.
