Vehicle with tinted windows leads to cocaine bust in the Sault
Two people have been charged with drug trafficking after police in Sault Ste. Marie noticed a vehicle with heavily tinted windows.
Police said in a news release Friday the arrests took place around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 4 on Bay Street.
The vehicle had "very dark tinted windows," so police conducted a traffic stop.
"Upon speaking with the driver and passenger, officers developed grounds to believe there was cannabis within immediate reach of the driver," police said.
"Both accused were placed under investigative detention under the Cannabis Control Act."
A search of the vehicle and a subsequent search of the suspects uncovered 58 grams of suspected cocaine, drug packaging materials, a digital scale, multiple cannabis products, alcohol, and approximately $2,000 in cash.
"These items, along with the vehicle, were seized," police said.
"The estimated street value of drugs seized is $5,800."
