Two suspects charged after alleged drive-by shooting in Massey area
Two residents from Manitoulin Island are charged with multiple weapons and drug-related offences following an alleged drive-by shooting in the Massey area Monday morning, police said.
Shortly after 10 a.m. April 29, officers were called to a Montreal Street home in the Town of Sables-Spanish Rivers after a report of a firearm being discharged toward the residence, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.
No one was injured in the incident.
"Police located the motor vehicle and arrested two occupants," OPP said.
"A search of the vehicle located an air pistol handgun, cell phones, drug paraphernalia and drugs suspected to be cocaine and opioids."
As a result, a 48-year-old woman and 37-year-old man, both from Wiikwemkoong First Nation, are charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Assault with a weapon
- Using an imitation firearm while committing offence
- Discharging a firearm with Intent
- Reckless discharge of firearm - life or safety
- Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Pointing a firearm
The male driver is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
Both of the accused are being held for bail court, the woman is scheduled to appear in court May 1 and the man on May 9.
