SAULT STE. MARIE -- Two Sault Ste. Marie residents are facing multiple charges after provincial police respond to a call about a disabled vehicle on Highway 17 and discover it was reported stolen.
Officers responded to the call around 1 p.m. Tuesday, about 25 km south of Wawa.
According to police, the vehicle had been reported stolen in Sault Ste. Marie.
Officials say one of the two occupants fled into a wooded area near Old Woman Bay when officers attempted to place the pair under arrest.
With the assistance of the OPP Northeast Region Emergency Response Team and canine units from both the OPP and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect.
Now, the two men, aged 26 and 38, both of Sault Ste. Marie, face multiple stolen property-related charges.
The 26-year-old man, who remains in custody, is also facing firearm and drug trafficking charges.
Police say the 38-year-old was released and is scheduled to appear in court July 6 in Wawa.
