Two people feared drowned in Temiskaming Shores, Ont.
An Ontario Provincial Police underwater recovery team is at the scene of a possible drowning in Temiskaming Shores.
Police have been on the scene of Pete’s Dam Park in the community since Sunday at 3 p.m.
Someone close to the family said on social media that a father and daughter are involved in the tragedy.
"All we can say at the moment is the underwater recovery team … arrived at 8 a.m. this morning," the person told CTV News in a social media message Monday.
The search involves two people, OPP Const. Martin Thibault told Lydia Chubak of CTV News.
Thibault said police aren't saying much more because of the "sensitive nature of the investigation."
He did say the site is on a rural road less than five minutes from Temiskaming Shores. It's a popular place to walk and there are rapids in the area.
On his Facebook page, Timmins-Jame Bay MP said the tragedy involved a father and daughter.
"We had a tragedy on the ice today," Angus said Sunday.
"A dad and daughter went through at Pete's Dams In Temiskaming Shores. This is a really heartbreaking tragedy. Prayers for the family."
Residents are being asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
Thibault said updates will be provided "as information comes in."
