SUDBURY -- Health units both in Greater Sudbury and the Timmins area are reporting new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.
In Sudbury, the health unit said the 111th case was confirmed from a test conducted Oct. 12. The person, who is self-isolating at home, is from Greater Sudbury and contracted the disease through travel.
"Through contact tracing, Public Health will notify all close contacts directly," the health unit said. "If you are not contacted by Public Health, you are not considered a close contact."
The 87th case in the Porcupine Health Unit was reported Oct. 10. However, while the person's permanent address is in the health unit's coverage area, they did not test positive here and remain in the unnamed community where the test was conducted.
"For individuals of the Porcupine Health Unit region who were infectious, tested positive and are in isolation outside the area, very limited details will be provided on the case table as the case would pose no risk of transmission to the general public," the health unit said. "They are included in the PHU case count as they are a permanent resident."
Both health units remind everyone the safest options are to avoid non-essential travel, limit indoor gatherings to your own household, and otherwise be outdoors or go virtual, practise physical distancing, masking, and handwashing, and of course, stay away if you have any symptoms.
As of Oct. 3, the province is pausing social circles and advising all Ontarians allow close contact only with people living in their own household and maintain two metres physical distancing from everyone else. Individuals who live alone may consider having close contact with another household.
If you think you may have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has it, first self-isolate and complete the on-line COVID-19 Self-Assessment to determine your next steps.
If testing is required, seek testing through one of the assessment centres across Ontario.
