TIMMINS -- Two more cases of COVID -19 in Timmins have been confirmed by the Porcupine Health Unit in a news release March 23.
Health officials say the two infected are a man and a woman in their 50s who were in close contact with one another.
On March 19, the two people reported to the emergency room at the Timmins hospital.
The man was sent home for self-isolation and the woman remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit in stable condition.
“Neither one of the individuals travelled outside of Canada,” the release read, noting that an investigation into the cases is still ongoing.
Health officials did not state that community spread was a factor in these cases, but advised the public to “act with the assumption that COVID-19 is circulating in our communities.”
The PHU’s medical officer, Dr. Lianne Catton, was not available for comment.
