Two people from Timmins and one from southern Ontario have been charged after police in Parry Sound stopped a vehicle this week on Highway 400.

Police saw cannabis readily available to the driver when they stopped the vehicle for a sobriety check around 1 a.m. Aug. 21 in Carling Township.

"A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in officers locating a firearm, high-capacity magazine, over $500 … and suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of approximately $200,000," Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday.

Two people from Timmins, both age 26, and a 21-year-old from North York are facing drug trafficking and weapons charges, as well as possession of property obtained by crime.

One of the Timmins suspects is also charged with driving with cannabis readily available, while the North York suspect is also charged with not wearing a seatbelt.

The accused were held for bail before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on Aug. 21.
