Two fatal crashes in northwestern Ontario over weekend
A 23-year-old from Winnipeg and a 31-year-old from Toronto were killed in two separate crashes on Highway 17 in northwestern Ontario over the weekend.

FRIDAY
The first fatal crash happened Friday at 5:41 p.m. on Highway 11-17 about 67 kilometres east of Thunder Bay.
A tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle in the area of Superior Shores Road in Shuniah.
As a result, the driver of the passenger vehicle -- a man from North York -- was pronounced deceased at the scene, OPP Const. Autumn Eadie told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email.
"No additional injuries have been reported to police,'" Eadie said.
"While our investigation is not yet complete, evidence gathered to date does not support the laying of a charge."
SATURDAY
A Winnipeg man was killed in a crash between two tractor-trailers on Highway 17 in the English River area of Upsala, Ont. -- about 400 kilometres east of the Manitoba border on Saturday.
Emergency crews from Thunder Bay about 140 km east and Ignace about 100 km west responded to the call around 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Eadie confirmed to CTV News in an email that two others were taken to hospital as a result of the crash and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
HIGHWAYS REOPENED
"(The road) was closed for a significant amount of time as the OPP collision investigators investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision," OPP said.
"If anyone has any information or dashcam footage from this event, they are urged to contact the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122."
No word on whether any charges are pending or if anyone else was injured in either crash.
