Trio from Timmins wins hospital 50/50 lottery jackpot
A trio of men from Timmins have hit the jackpot after playing the local hospital 50/50 cash lottery for about a year together.
Ray, Vic and Jean won $142,848 in the October grand prize draw for the TADH 50/50 (Timmins and District Hospital Foundation)
Ray, Vic and Jean won $142,848 in the October grand prize draw, the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation said in a news release Monday.
Every month Ray would tell his friends "It's our month" and this time he was right, the foundation said.
"He had mentioned that he saw our jackpot update on Facebook a few days prior," TADHF said.
"When Ray got the winning call, he was out of town. He sure was surprised about the big news and, of course, didn’t believe us at first."
Ray texted his two friends about the win and they thought he was joking until they found out it was real.
Each man is taking home $47,616.
The foundation is putting the proceeds from the October draw toward buying medical equipment that the entire community and district will use every day.
Tickets for the next draw on Nov. 24 are available and the jackpot is already more than $17,000. There are also seven additional draws for $1,000-$2,000.
