SUDBURY -- Timmins Police Service is reminding everyone to be responsible this New Year's Eve.
They are urging all citizens and guests to the city who are set to ring in the New Year by means of celebration that involves alcohol or other intoxicants to plan ahead.
Police say some tips include:
- Abstinence from drinking
- Pre-arranging for a taxi
- Enlisting a sober driver
- Staying the night
- Walk home
Police officials say they will be actively monitoring driving behaviours to ensure sobriety at the wheel.
Impaired drivers will be subject to:
- Arrest
- Towing of vehicles
- Court appearances
- Legal fees
- Enhanced insurance rates
- Travel difficulties
- Limited job opportunities
- The knowledge that any or all of these could have been easily avoided
Police say a safe New Year's Eve is everyone's responsibility.
