The Timmins Youth Wellness Hub now has its own place to call home – a space designed by youth for youth.

So far, it's hosted two open houses. The Timmins Youth Wellness Hub hosted a couple of open houses this week to give people between the ages of twelve and twenty-five an opportunity to meet staff and tour the building. (Lydia Chubak/CTV News Northern Ontario)“We want to educate people on what the Hub is and what we’re doing, show them it’s a comfortable, safe space that they can come and be downtown safely," said Catharine Lockheart, a program coordinator at the hub.

The hub launched four years ago and moved around from school, to parks, to where it could connect with youth to offer programs and services.

Now, youth between the ages of 12 - 25 can access what the hub offers five days a week.- It's only closed on Fridays and Sundays.

The people who work at the hub meet youths where they're at. – If they need a place to unwind after a stressful day, they go to the hub and watch a movie, for example. – If they are hungry, the fridge is full and the kitchen is available for them to use or if they need health care, there are counsellors and a nurse ready to talk.

“And it’s little things that we kind of take for granted sometimes in our day-to-day lives that may be not be available for anyone or to have a safe space to be able to take a quiet moment and make a sandwich,” added Lockheart.

“It’s a big deal for some people as it should be."

The important thing to remember is there's no pressure placed on youths and services are free.

“What I like about coming here is it’s very welcoming and I love seeing the staff here and just the activities they do," said Isaiah Spicer, a grade twelve student who's been attending events at the hub for the past two years.

The Timmins Youth Wellness Hub is active on social media – Facebook is a good place to see its schedule at a glance, but the staff hope people will stop by and see it in person/

It's located across from Timmins Transit on Spruce Street.

Official said just ring the doorbell and they'll let you inside.
