More than 321 evacuees have arrived safely in Timmins from Kashechewan First Nation – with only a few more family members left to arrive.

The evacuation management team is operating out of the Ramada Inn Hotel on Riverside Drive and is running a 24-hour full-service nursing station on-site while coordinating optometry and dental requests for the evacuees.

Meals are being provided in the hotel’s ballroom, including traditional meats such as caribou and goose.

"Initially we had (expected) 250, it went up to 488 now we’re down to 400 (evacuees)," said Timmins Fire Chief Berny Stansa speaking with CTV News earlier in the process.

Timmins’ ‘State of Emergency’ remains in effect to allow for the continued mobilization of resources to assist the evacuees.
