Except for the stretches from Gravenhurst to Emsdale and from South River to North Bay the speed limit on Highway 11 is only 90km/h.
“On April 21, 2024, Cochrane TIME (traffic incident management and enforcement team) stopped a vehicle on Highway 11 in Matheson for stunt driving,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a social media post.
As a result of the traffic stop a 19-year-old G2 driver from Timmins has been charged with stunt driving – their driver’s licence was also suspended for 30 days and the vehicle involved was impounded for 14 days.
Court-imposed penalties for stunt driving may include a fine of up to $10,000, a driver’s licence suspension of up to three years and/or up to six months in jail. In Ontario, drivers face a minimum first-time fine for stunt driving of $2,000 upon conviction.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
“Slow down,” said police.
