He threatened the clerk with a weapon and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

"Any robbery involving the threat of violence and the use of a weapon is a cause for concern for the general public, and that migrated to a cause for concern for your police department as well. So, in that regard, we’re hopeful that we can address this one incident. We’re also working collaboratively with the local retailers, so that they’re better acquainted with what to do when such circumstances occur," said Marc Depatie, of Timmins Police Service.

Police officials say the store clerk, in this instance, followed the correct procedure and did not get hurt.

Depatie says clerks should comply with demands for money or merchandise and collect as much detail as possible on the suspect.  He says police will need to know approximate hieght, weight, accent, clothing, weapon description if any.

They also say there is no concern for public safety at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
