Police in Timmins have arrested one of the two 17-year-olds wanted in connection with a recent assault outside a city convenience store.

The unprovoked attack took place around 1:53 a.m. July 15 outside of the Circle K store located on Algonquin Boulevard West.

“The assault appeared to have been recorded on the suspects’ cellphones,” police said in a news release Friday.

“As a result of the attack, the victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police were able to identify two 17-year-old suspects in the case and charged them with assault causing bodily harm. They also release security cam photos in hopes of finding them and taking them into custody.

One of the suspects was located Thursday in a vehicle stolen in Sudbury.

“The young person was arrested for the incident at Circle K,” police said.

“They were also charged with obstruct police and assault police for an altercation that took place at the time of arrest.”

The remaining occupants in the vehicle – two 15-year-olds and an 18-year-old – fled in the stolen vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Sudbury on July 12.

“The remaining occupants of the vehicle were ultimately located at a residence on Sixth Avenue and patrol officers contained the scene,” police said.

During the arrests, police located a loaded handgun along with a quantity of fentanyl and cash on one of the 15-year-olds.

The 18-year-old has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and two counts each of fleeing from police and dangerous driving.

One of the 15-year-olds, who is from Timmins, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, multiple weapons offences, including carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The second 15-year-old was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and breach of sentence order. The young person was released on an undertaking.

“A warrant to arrest the second suspect for assault at Circle K has been sought,” police said.

“Timmins Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance with the investigation.”
