SUDBURY -- The fugitive is now in custody, Timmins police said late Tuesday afternoon, and is awaiting a bail hearing.
Police said two suspects were arrested in the James Street area of Timmins around 5:45 p.m.
"Arrangements for respective bail hearings to answer to several serious Criminal Code offences are being determined by the Timmins Police," police said in a news release.
One suspect is 19, the other is a young offender. More details will be released Wednesday.
Original story:
Timmins police are asking residents in the Schumacher neighbourhood to stay indoors while they track a "dangerous" fugitive who may be armed.
The wanted man was allegedly involved in an altercation with Timmins police in a hotel parking lot earlier Tuesday morning and then fled the scene in a vehicle that was later found abandoned in local neighbourhood.
The 19-year-old suspect, originally from Toronto, is described as:
- Black male
- 6' tall
- 220 lbs with a medium build
- Black hair and brown eyes
Police say he is wanted for several serious offences and is considered to be "a dangerous person."
"Given the nature of his recent actions, anyone seeing this person is advised not to approach for public safety reasons," said Marc Depatie, corporate communications coordinator with Timmins Police Service, in a news release.
Residents in the immediate area are asked to remain indoors and not congregate in the restricted area to avoid contaminating the scene.
Depatie says a photo of the suspect is expected soon.
Officers are holding the scene where the vehicle was found.
The fugitive is believed to be on foot and police say to call 911 with any sightings or information as to his current whereabouts, however, officials ask that the public does not call dispatch or 911 to ask for updates on the progress of this matter.
"Relevant information will be distributed by the Timmins Police Service as soon as it becomes available," said Depatie. "This matter is under control and being managed by the Timmins Police Service ERT team. All traffic arteries leading into, and out of Schumacher have been closed as a preventative public safety measure and they will remain closed until further notice."
More details to come, check back for updates.
