The Timmins and District Hospital is known throughout the region for its state of the art medical equipment. That's with thanks to the hospital foundation's extensive fundraising efforts.
However, when it comes to repairs and upgrades, the hospital has to look elsewhere for money.
Hospital officials just received word earlier this week that it will receive $2 million from the ministry of health, funneled through the North East Local Health Integration Network.
Overall, the LHIN received more than $9.7 million in infrastructure renewal funding from the province.
Five other hospitals in the northeast region will also receiving funding, but the one in Timmins is getting the most. It's good news to hospital officials. The roof is in dire need of repairs.
"We do have some leakage," said Bryan Bennetts, Timmins and District Hospital chief financial officer.
"We're trying to address that. You know, we've tried repairs over the last few years to address those leaks and that has helped, but nothing's better than actually having a brand new roof over it. Like anything else, twenty-five to thirty years, you know, with the weather conditions that we have here, the roof has had considerable deterioration."
The roof is separated into eight blocks.
In 2005, half were repaired. Officials say they will begin work on the half in need of repairs as soon as possible this summer.
