Timmins fundraiser features former 'Happy Days' star

Lisa Froment of Timmins is excited to host her second annual 'Fly With Me' variety show, in support of the Breast Wellness Centre at the Timmins and District Hospital.

It will take place Jan. 27 at the Porcupine Dante Club. Her first one brought in $15,000.

"It’s now my 12th year since I’ve had breast cancer ... and I vowed to myself that every year after my 10th year ... I’m going to give back because the community’s been there for me when I was in need," said Froment, who is also a singer and songwriter.

The event will include a five-course Italian meal and a variety of entertainers, including local comedian Rick Lemieux. It will be hosted by television personality Bill Welychka.

And for fans of the old sitcom Happy Days, the actor who played Ralph Malph will also be part of the event, singing jazz tunes while accompanied by a local quartet.

“I didn’t really dive into it seriously to do my own show until about nine years ago and I had been performing quite a bit but with COVID it really kind of stopped for a while," said Most, an actor and jazz singer.

Most said he started singing at the age of 13, well before Happy Days.

“And I wasn’t really even liking the character that much,” he said.

“So here I am where people were thinking that’s who I am and I’m only right for that kind of a role, so I just felt like I needed to start making chunks in the wall you know, start opening it up slowly and getting the chance to do what I’ve always wanted to do.”

Most also recently appeared in feature films, playing a wide range of characters from pastor to polygamist.

Most and Froment have something in common -- they both believe in themselves and never give up.

"You have to keep pushing, keep going," said Froment.

"This is really important to me -- our equipment at the hospital needs to be changed every couple of years so and that’s not cheap."

She and Most are looking forward to finally meeting one another in person in a couple of weeks.
