Meeting this week, city council in Timmins approved a request from a local cannabis store to close a nearby parking lot for two hours on Saturday.

Officials with Casa Bliss asked to have a portion of the Third Avenue Parking lot between Birch Street South and Maple Street South closed from 3-5 p.m. for a 4/20 celebration.

April 20 has become a day associated with cannabis, and events are planned across the world. In Timmins, Casa Bliss said it is planning a “community smoke” at 4:20 p.m. and everyone is invited to come by

“We will be giving away some awesome prizes including a gravity bong valued at $500, a gift certificate to Casa Bliss and more,” an official with the store said in a Facebook message.

“There will be music, free pizza some prizes to give away and of course, at 4:20 we will all be having a community smoke together with whoever is there.”

Officials remind everyone that free cannabis is not on the agenda, and attendees will have to bring their own products or buy some from the store.

“We will be providing a place for everyone to gather and enjoy what they brought,” the message said.

“It’s our way of acknowledging 4/20 and the spirit of togetherness that it brings.”

The city has agreed to close the parking lot from 3-5 p.m., provide barriers to block off the area and two large garbage containers.
