The 75th annual CTV Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon continued its northern tradition Saturday.

Over the last few years, the pandemic has changed how the telethon was attended. However, this year saw the return of crowds to watch the amazing entertainment live.

For the second year in a row, the CTV Lions Children's Christmas Telethon was held at Greater Sudbury’s Place des Arts.

The annual fundraiser remains a symbol of holiday cheer and the spirit of giving in the Sudbury community and beyond.

The show featured various talents from across the region who performed throughout the nine-hour show.

This year, as of the end of the show, the telethon has so far raised more than $335,000 – surpassing the Lions Club’s goal of $275,000.

“Sudbury always comes through,” said Sam Khoury, the telethon chair.

“Bell Media with the satellite, everyone donating from outside Canada too for this lovely and great cause to support our needy families in this area.”

The telethon supports families from Thessalon, Iron Bridge, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Manitoulin Island, Greater Sudbury including Azilda Chelmsford, Onaping Falls, Capreol, Garson, Valley East, Coniston and Wahnapitae as well as Noelville, St. Charles, Markstay, Warren, Noelville and the French River Area. The 2023 telethon campaign raised funds in hopes of providing thousands of children with gifts.

Despite these difficult times, the kindness and generosity of northern Ontario families continues to shine through.
