As was reported earlier this week, the elementary teachers' union officials will soon be holding strike cotes across Ontario.

All teachers' union locals have been asked to hold votes on so-called 'central table items'.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario's Rainbow Local says it's being done to underline priorities, including more support for students with special needs.

"We have a government in power right now that is slashing education spending… cutting supports for vulnerable families and vulnerable children in our province, so one of our big priorities is we absolutely require more supports for students who come into our classrooms with special needs," said Barb Blasutti, Rainbow Teacher Local EFTO President.

Blasutti says as far as she is concerned, this is a normal part of the bargaining process and that it's business as usual.
